Baptisms

We welcome enquiries for Baptisms, also commonly called Christenings, at St James’; these are usually held on the second and third Sunday of the month at 2pm.

In this service, parents thank God for the gift of life; make a decision to start their child on the Christian journey of faith, and godparents promise their help and support. Older children and adults are also regularly baptised and confirmed at St James' following a course of preparation, after which they make their own promises to follow the journey of faith.

We welcome you into the Lord’s family;
We are children of
the same heavenly Father.

We welcome you.

What are the requirements?

Candidates normally live in the parish or attend St James' regularly.

For infants and young children our Baptism procedure includes attending a few Sunday morning services, a visit from the vicar, and a Baptism preparation session to which Godparents are also invited.

There is no fee for a Baptism apart from an administration charge which for 2023 is £18 per candidate.
